About
Funded by St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG), the SJCG Awards in Applied Health Research is a yearly competition of four awards, each valued at $4000.
Eligibility
The awards are available to four full-time graduate students at Lakehead University pursuing research related to the service areas of SJCG. Recipients of the awards must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and under the supervision of a CAHR member.
Process
Each year, awardees will receive their installments from September of the application year to August of the following year. Applications open each year in January or February and close in March. The awards are administered by CAHR at SJCG.

CAHR Learner Award
Award Opportunity #2: Centre for Applied Health Research (CAHR) Learner Award (Applications now open for the 2026 CAHR Learner Award)
About
The CAHR Learner Award is a yearly $250 prize, awarded by cheque, recognizing the top student poster presented at the Showcase of Health Research.
Eligibility
To qualify for the CAHR Learner Award, applicants must:
Have been students at the time the research was conducted. Because knowledge dissemination takes time, applicants do not need to be students at the time of submission; however, their graduation date should be within one year of submission.
Be enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Northwestern Ontario at the time the research was conducted .
Have been supervised by a CAHR member at the time the research was conducted.
Submission
To be considered, applicants must:
Submit an abstract to the Showcase of Health Research and indicate their interest in the CAHR Learner Award in their application.
Email their poster to sjcg.cahr@tbh.net by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 for preliminary judging.
Submissions will undergo a preliminary review to determine the finalists.
Judging Process
Finalist posters will be evaluated in person at the Showcase of Health Research. Judges will review the poster boards and speak directly with finalists during designated poster sessions. The winner will be announced near the end of the event.
